Conventions Of A College Magazine

The most striking past of the magazine is the masthead emblazoned across the top part of the magazine's cover. This is blocked because it is still easily readable so therefore isn't need to be on top of everything else. Also the Sell Line is located just below this, which means that the masthead doesn't have to be entirely visible, especially a bigger masthead like this.
The left third contains most the coverlines, which may the consumer want to buy it, as this can be seen because of the way magazines are stacked, so students will generally see this too. Below this it the barcode, required to be sold by the college. Following this the price, which is always located there because conventionally when people need to find a price they will look there. on the right third (an unconventional use) we can see more cover lines, and a flash of an advertisement. The main image is obviously of a student, which is portrayed by the books he carries, however his dress sense connotes that he may be fasionable and 'cool' so therefore students will look up to him and probably buy the magazine. the colour scheme keeps it looking proessional, but the brighter writing means that its still looks like its aimed at younger people, and most importantly, college students. this splash uses a few screamers, like the one referring to making money, which draws you in as most people are interested in extra money. the camera is a medium close up as it shows the subject from the waist up, which looks better than any other shot because it isnt distorted by cutting out parts of the body. This magazine is run monthly, the month being stated in the very top right of the page. Also here are more sell lines, run along the skyline of the magazine so that is the magazuine is poking out it will be picked up because of them.
